Ruskin Bond – Biography

Ruskin Bond is a celebrated Indian author of British descent, widely known for his contributions to English literature in India. He was born on May 19, 1934, in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. He spent most of his childhood in Dehradun, and the serene beauty of the hills has greatly influenced his storytelling.

At the age of 17, he wrote his first novel, "The Room on the Roof," which won the prestigious John Llewellyn Rhys Prize. Since then, he has written over 500 short stories, essays, and novellas, and more than 50 books for children. Some of his best-known works include "The Blue Umbrella," "Rusty the Boy from the Hills," and "A Flight of Pigeons."

His writing is admired for its simplicity, warmth, and deep connection to nature and human emotions. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014. He currently resides in Landour, near Mussoorie.
